AIDS, or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, is caused by a virus known as HIV. Moreover, HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. In case you get infected with it, your body defenses will try to battle the infection by creating antibodies, which are special molecules to fight HIV.
When you get a blood analysis test, these antibodies are trying to be found in order to determine if you have HIV. People who have HIV antibodies in their blood flow are denominated 'HIV-Positive'.
If you are HIV-Positive, it does not mean that you have AIDS. There are several people who are HIV-Positive, yet don't become sick after past various years. While HIV continues present in your body, your immune system slowly wears down. Parasites, bacteria, fungi and viruses which normally do not pose any threat to you, can make very ill in case your immune system is very damaged. These kind of infections are called opportunistic.
